Mother songs... Where art thou?

exclusive – (Sett El-Habayeb Ya Habiba), (Mama Zamanha Gayya), (Ahan Alb Fil Donya Deyya Albek Ya Ommy), (Mama Ya Helwa Ya Agmal Ghenwa), (El-Sett Di Ommy).

These are the most famous and prominent songs we usually hear on radio and see on television on Mother's Day every year. Though it's been over fifty years since most of these songs were made, they are still played over and over again till we have memorized them by heart.

The question to be posed is: where are the rest of the songs that have been made for the same occasion along the past years? Why weren't they able to survive like those we mentioned at first? Though not a year goes by without producing new songs that have huge amounts of money invested in them, none of such songs do survive. Is there something wrong with these songs? Or is it those in charge of the radio and TV channels?

We have asked this question to some of our most prominent composers and singers. Their answers are as follows:

A shared responsibility
(There is a shared responsibility between both parties; radio stations and TV channels on one hand, and singers and composers on the others) says Afaf Rady. Radio stations and TV channels like to take the easy way out they just play the most famous songs along with the production of that year. They just don't bother to look for what was produced in the previous years, she continues. She adds saying that musicians, poets and singers bear some responsibility too; they don't bother to present different, distinguished works, whether on the level of new and moving yet up-to-date lyrics, or on that of the music that would reach out to people's hearts. They then have the responsibility of pushing the stations and channels to play them continuously.

Neglecting the new
Ali El-Haggar offers us a bit of a new perspective: There were many beautiful songs that we made on this occasion throughout the years. However, unfortunately, they are no longer broadcasted though the audience did relate to them when they were first played, which was even more of a reason for people in charge to focus on them just like what happened with the oldies. I don't refer exclusively to my own songs which were huge hits like Daa'wetek El-Fagr Yamma and other ones there are numerous lovely songs of the same theme. Sadly, they are seldom remembered, and even when they are, it is by a few radio stations or channels. The majority would suffice with the well-known oldies, which are magnificent for sure, however the new ones should not be neglected like that.

Songs for special occasions
Medhat Saleh's opinion on the subject comes as a surprise: Let's agree to something: it's no longer the time for making songs for special occasions. Take the songs for Ramadan for example, the audience just wouldn't accept any song except for the oldies; same thing goes for feasts' songs. Even patriotic songs it's hard to find a new one that would be able to survive as long as those that were made during our wars. So why do you claim it is the fault of the singers and composers of our time?!

A most beautiful present
Shaza comments: Like many others, I wish to be offered new distinguished songs so that I might have the chance to express my gratitude for all mothers. No doubt we all love our mothers and would not hesitate to put this love into beautiful songs that would serve as a present on this special occasion. I am also sure that we are indeed capable of performing these songs with the sincerest emotions. However, the question to pose would be: where are the channels or the producers who possess the adequate financial resources to make a presentable work worthy of our great mothers?!

Disposable Songs
We wrap up our round with musician Helmy Bakr who says: Surely there is something terribly wrong with the songs themselves, not with the radio stations or channels. Most songs come in a disposable form, that is to say their producers exert no noticeable effort out of the logic that the song would be played for a day or two max. This is absolutely wrong and no real artist can resort to such logic. I have to do the best I can by putting all my experience into the work, then I leave it to public taste. I do believe that when we administer sincerity, the audience would stand by me and make the stations play my works. Unfortunately, most of those involved with songs nowadays are not even close to being semi poets, composers and singers!!

Ahmad Adaweyya: No agreement with Haifa about a duet

exclusive – Pop icon Ahmad Adaweyya has denied all that was said about his preparations for a new duet with Haifa Wehbe. It has been rumored that preparations are underway for the duet which is to be broadcasted on satellite channels within the next few days. This follows the sensational success of (El-Nass El Rayaa) duet by both Adaweyya and Lebanese singer Ramy Ayash.

Adaweyya has emphasized that there isn't any agreement of the sort with Haifa. He has stated that what happened was that Haifa called him to express her admiration of his duet with Ramy, describing it as (more than wonderful), and to tell him that she would love to have the chance to share a similar experience with him, however no actual projects or agreements were discussed.

The Pop icon has added saying that he has nothing to do with the (Ya Bent El-Sultan) duet project coming to an end. Haifa was supposed to sing this duet with her fellow citizen Ragheb Allama after successfully performing it together in several concerts.

Regarding his new artistic projects, Adaweyya has mentioned that he is going back to acting – after a 25 year absence, through the series (El-Hara), written by Ahmad Abdullah. Director Sameh Abdel Aziz was the one to nominate Adaweyya for the role which is to include some singing. Meanwhile, Adaweyya is busy recording the songs for his new album to be released in the summer.

Khaled Selim finished the song (Adei Aleik) and denies stealing (Enta Omry)

Khaled Selim is through with filming the video clip for the song (Ad’ei Aleik), which is one of the songs of his latest album, (Dah Ana).

The clip was filmed in Cairo, in one of the studios near the Smart Village under the supervision of the director (Chevan) With the help of the director of photography, Ahmed Gabr, Khaled appears in the clip in a new and different look and with a new idea which is appropriate to the atmosphere of the song.

It’s mentioned that the album (Adei Aleik) has been released to the market two months ago in collaboration with Melody Music.

Khalid Salim confirmed in exclusive statements that the similarity between the melodic intro of the song (Ad’ei Aleik be eah) with the intro of the song (Enta Omry) sang by Umm Kulthum was intended because the distributor wanted to send a message through the song to the lover to tell him that you are my life ,pointing out that he did not write on the cover of the Album that the melody was adapted from Umm Kulthum’s song because it was only a little piece quoted as it is and changes were made to the second piece unlike others who quote the full tune, without reference to the source.
